Well, what a great way to spend my last two days in the States: listening to a news report telling me that the Midwest is about to experience the worst snow storm in United States history. On the day that I leave, of course. I'm leaving Wednesday morning for O'Hare, and from there taking another flight to Heathrow. O'Hare happens to be inside of the worst of this predicted blizzard, if I'm reading this picture correctly. Yes, Chicago is in the center of that purple mass of snowy doom. Getting from Seattle to Chicago won't be that much of a hassle. Leaving Chicago may not happen. So, for the next several hours, I get to hope and pray that United Airlines switches my flight to somewhere else not located in the predicted 2 feet of snow + 1 inch of pure ice. Here's NPR's article on the Monster Storm for more.
Now, this news is on top of all of the last-minute things that still need to be done before I run away, including, but not limited to: finding new headphones, finding the right electrical socket converter, packing, finishing the damn FAFSA, a couple of things that I probably should have written down and have since forgotten, and then packing some more.
Deeeeeeeeeeep breath. I have to keep telling myself to not worry so much: I'll get to London eventually. If I'm delayed, sure, I'll be more than a little bit miffed, but there is absolutely nothing I can do at this point. Just hope, just pray, just focus on packing, just continue catching up on "Would I Lie to You?" on YouTube, and for good measure, just listen to the mix of Mumford & Sons and The Head & the Heart on iTunes. Whew....
